The Artist

From early childhood I had a fascination with the natural world, this was mainly influenced from living in the countryside, first in the region of Midlothian outside Edinburgh until the age of nine, then moving to Morayshire. I spent a lot of time outdoors and was always fascinated with the multitude of colours and patterns which formed my surrounding environment.

Although I enjoyed art at school it was at home that I practiced how to use mediums which were not provided in class, oil paint, watercolour, pastel and acrylic. My desire to study art did not diminish over the years and in 2013 I returned to further education, with the support of my husband Alan and my daughters Alannah and Romara.

In 2017 my husband was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, and this intensified my awareness of the importance of the time we spent together and the memories we shared and created. My husband and daughters and our life experiences together have directed and influenced my work. In my final year of my MA I had the opportunity to provide art sessions in a local Palliative Care Centre. Through this experience I became aware of the importance of sharing our memories and creating gifts of legacy, reconnecting with our identity and the positive mental and physical benefits gained through creativity.

In loving memory of my precious husband and father
